Chat export

A file produced by an app containing a conversation's content, without its appearance.

A chat export is a file an app can produce containing the content of a conversation, usually as text with attachments. WhatsApp offers one; Meta offers a broader data download.

An export carries content but not the appearance of the conversation, so it usually needs explaining. Many people present screenshots as the main exhibit and keep the export as a separate labelled supporting exhibit.
